Donated LabourTorrington Christmas lightsOur annual request came from the town council to put up the towns Christmas lights in the square. MayfairAs usual the Cavaliers help the Mayfair committee with this very special event.
The Mayfair committee do the rest and what a good job they do. We must continue to work together to keep this tradition going! Great Torrington Skateboard Park & Graffiti wallThe Cavaliers have donated the labour to get the skate park off the ground. We cleared the site and erected a fence ( funded by us £500 approx))to protect the young also using the play area. It is in continuous use. The opening ceremony will be on Saturday 14th May at 12 noon. Pictures will follow. Sam Harmans GardenWe had a request from Ian and Hester Harman, asking if we could help make a garden accessible for a local boy, Sam, 3 who has cerebral palsy and is confined to a motorised wheelchair. We agreed to provide the labour for the project, funding had been sought elsewhere. We shifted nearly 20 tons of top soil on the first day, using a mini digger donated by Phil Vanstone of Groundplant in Bideford, and shifting it with a tractor and trailer donated by Glenn Bealy of Week Farm Torrington. Then our skilled people built stone walls and laid a firm surface so that Sam can access the garden safely to explore all the plants etc. It was a very moving experience for Sam, and we are sure he will enjoy his new garden for many years to com. |
