40th Anniversary book. "Built to Burn"

Torrington Cavaliers celebrate forty years of charity fundraising in 2010. Back in 1970 a group of chaps from the town took a replica of St Michael’s Church on a lorry down to Plymouth to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing. In 2005 they built a magnificent half size replica of HMS Victory. This bonfire alone raised over £72,000 for charity. In between they built many other bonfires including the Houses of Parliament, Pudding Lane, the Bismarck and a Viking Ship. Throughout the years the Cavaliers set out to provide, ‘entertainment the like of which Torrington has never seen before’. They’ve devised some madcap schemes in order to achieve their aim and in doing so have raised over a quarter of a million pounds for charity.
