Official Opening of Skate Park and Graffiti wall

Saturday 14th April 12 noon The idea of a skate park was brought by Great Torrington Town Council some 30 years ago, but moved no further forward until a few years ago when some local youngsters and Anne Tattersall set up a committee to start the ball rolling again with the help of the CDT. Obstacles were as usual in the way from the district council and TESCO putting in planning to use the designated area. Once the go ahead had been given the Cavaliers moved in and prepared the site for the installation of the equipment, made the old spiked fencing safe and bought and erected the new fencing separating the original children's playing field from the skate park. An idea was also put forward to reduce the graffiti around the town, and with the support of the Police, local & district councils, Devon County Council youth and Devon County Council the first LEGAL graffiti wall was opened at the same time within the playground.  The park & wall was opened by the Mayor ( and Cavalier) Richard Rumbold and the Mayoress, his wife Helen. Also our Chairman Chris Stacey did his own bit of Graffiti!!
