The Black Horse Inn raises £2020 for us!

The Torrington Cavaliers HMS VICTORY cycle ride, organised and sponsored by Dave and Val Sawyer of the Black Horse Hotel in Torrington, raised a staggering £2,020.

Just over 50 riders, all in fancy dress costume, had taken part in this inaugural event which took in the Tarka Trail from Torrington to Instow and back. Dave Kelly from Torrington Cycle hire had provided many of the cycles free of charge and, on their return to the Old Bowling Green,, the riders found the Reg and Steve Ware and their staff from the local butchers providing a barbecue which they had provided as part of the sponsorship.

Accepting the cheque from Val Sawyer at the Black Horse Hotel on Thursday evening, Chris Stacey, the Chairman of the Cavaliers, said he spoke for all the Cavaliers in expressing his amazement at the sum raised and gratitude to everyone who had taken part. It was, he said, another demonstration of the community spirit for which Torrington is famous. He promised that the money spent on building the œVictory and would be returned many times over by the funds raised at the bonfire in August.
