SCARECROW COMPETITION

Strange and colourful characters will be appearing around Torrington from this weekend, as part of the town's annual scarecrow competition.

The Torrington Cavaliers are inviting residents and businesses in the area to take part in this years fun event. There are prizes for the winners, and points are awarded for originality, quality, and attention to detail etc. Cavalier Dick Matthews said: "The competition is getting more popular every year. The weather last summer was appalling but people still made the effort. We're hoping that with the promise of a barbeque summer this year, more people will be encouraged to enter. It brightens up the town and the tourists love it!"

The scarecrow competition runs from now until the end of August. There are three classes of entry, Private (£5), Business (£10), and Schools (Free). Entry forms and full competition rules are available from the offices of Tattersalls Property Management in Castle Street, or from this website very soon. The competition is now in it's third year, and the Cavaliers are hopeful that many residents and businesses will enter to make the town and surrounding villages colourful throughout the summer. Judging will take place towards the end of August with the results being posted on the Cavaliers website.
