A massive thank you to everyone who supported our event and bought balls!! It was brilliant! The winning balls had a lot to contend with – drains, weeds, cars, potholes, excited children!! The Torrington Cavaliers are over the moon to announce that their August bank holiday BIG BURN event raised an incredible £80,000 for charity! A share of that will go to the four named charities – Devon Air Ambulance; North Devon Hospice; Guide Dogs for the Blind Association; and Torrington Commons Conservators – with the rest going into a pot that smaller local charities and good causes can apply to. Cavaliers Chairman Mark Keeley said “We’re absolutely delighted. Considering the event was postponed due to the Covid pandemic and then with the uncertainty this year, it’s a great result. Our best yet!” Around 9,000 people saw a full-size replica of the Mayflower go up in flames alongside a spectacular pyromusical and huge fireworks finale. Earlier in the evening the crowd also enjoyed live music and Rowlands fair rides.
